Café Hoppe

This brown café, the oldest in Amsterdam, first opened in 1670 and is always packed. It serves the largest quantity of beer, some 300,000 litres per year according to the waiter!
Situated at the corner of Spui and Heisberg, the atmosphere there is very friendly, so much so that it is easy to start up a conversation with the regulars.
The barrels, even if they are no longer used, decorate the back of the bar up to the ceiling.
