Amsterdam State Museum - Rijksmuseum

This particular museum was built in 1885, and was designed by Pierre Cuypers, the architect behind the Central train station. This museum displays a typically Dutch style, blending Neo-Gothic and Dutch Renaissance characteristics.

The Rijksmuseum's impressive collection boasts more than 5 000 paintings, primarily by Dutch and Flemish masters of the 15th to the 19th century. The 17th century, the Dutch Golden Age, is of course given precedence, with many works by artists such as Rembrandt, Vermeer, Frans Hals and Jan Steen.
Catch a glimpse of the Dutch artistic genius and the culture of this country over the centuries: pay a visit to this world famous museum during your trip to Amsterdam.
