Calais Citadel, exploration

A symbol of the city’s history, the sixteenth-century Calais Citadel stands on the site of the mediaeval chateau built by the Count of Burgundy, Philippe Hureprel. It was transformed into a military fortress by the architect Vauban. Today, the flowered walkways make it somewhere that locals and visitors enjoy exploring on foot.
