Near to Orleans Cathedral, visit

The original Orleans Cathedral was built in the sixth century. The exact location is unknown. However, records show that the first cathedral attributed to the current site dated from the seventh century, already went by the name of Sainte-Croix and was ravaged by fire in 989.
The Romanesque church rebuilt some time later collapsed in 1278. And so a new one was built in the Gothic style.
The facades of the transept date from between 1627 and 1680.
In 1702, architect Jacques V Gabriel commissioned sculptor Jules Degoullons to produce the stalls and panelling of the chancel.
The portal of Sainte-Croix Cathedral was unveiled on 8 May 1829, the fourth centenary of the liberation of Orleans by Joan of Arc.
