Travel to Montmartre and Batignolles
The
Sacré Cœur, perched high on its hilltop, and the
Moulin rouge certainly help to make
Montmartre one of the most famous areas of
Paris. The hill's vineyards and mills inspired painters like Georges Michel and Utrillo, and artists still stand their easels on place du Tertre.
Bars, nightclubs and cabaret joints also make Montmartre a magnet for live performance, glitz and glamour.
Les Batignolles was the proposed site of the 2012 Olympic village. London won the right to hold the Games, and the renovation project was abandoned, but this previously sleepy neighbourhood has taken the chance to wake from its slumber. A number of classy establishments provide a haven of peace and tranquillity just a short hop from vibrant place de Clichy, with its cinemas, concert halls and a growing number of brasseries, bars and restaurants.
