The Bastille is one of the historic hotspots of the city, a monument raised to celebrate the French revolution and named after the famed prison. Towering in the centre of the square, the Génie de la Liberté gilded bronze statue stands atop a huge column.

This district has been a beacon for music lovers and party-goers since 1989 with the inauguration of Opéra Bastille.
