The Orthodox church of Saint-Michel Archange was built at the end of the 19th century based on plans by local architect Louis Nouveau. The Orthodox church is inspired by Russian tradition: Greek cross design, varnished tile roof, crowned with a small onion-shaped belltower with a starry sky design. It was built for the Russian empress Maria Alexandrovna, wife of the Czar Alexander III, who would occasionally spend the winter in Cannes.
