The Jardin du Rocher des Doms was the cradle of the city. Here you can see the remains of a significant settlement from the end of the Neolithic era and an oppidum. It was to become a shared pasture in the Middle Ages.
But in 1839 it was decided to make it into a public garden. In the nineteenth century, the garden was decorated with statues of famous figures: Jean Althen, Félix Gras and then Venus with Swallows by Félix Charpentier.
It’s now a 29,000m² garden with a large pond, home to swans, ducks, geese and carp, which entertains the kids and makes for a pleasant stop during a visit of the city. The garden also offers a wonderful panoramic view over the Rhone and the surrounding area.
