Mercier Champagne House in Epernay, visit
Many champagne houses provide tours of their cellars but the one offered by Mercier, the bestselling champagne in France, is the most popular of all. The champagne producer has been based in the Epernay region since 1869.
The 45-minute cellar tour starts with a short film tracing the history of the company and its founder. Visitors then move thirty metres underground, where temperatures are eleven to twelve degrees, to explore the eighteen kilometres of tunnels aboard a mini train.
And what better way to end the tour than with a chilled glass of Mercier itself?
