As of 28th June 2007, the city of Bordeaux and its architectural heritage feature on the UNESCO world heritage list.
A total area of 1,810 hectares known as the Port de la Lune (Port of the Moon) has been honoured with this title, comprising the urban area running from the Quai de Bacalan to the Quai de Paludate, beside the Garonne river, at the point where it meanders in the shape of a crescent moon.
The Port de la Lune is distinguished by the grandeur and harmonious design of its buildings and the unique urban beauty of the whole area.
Wander this stunning quarter of Bordeaux and discover an urban design which is tinted with the spirit of the Enlightenment. Walking from the Pont de Pierre to the Place des Quinconces, you might like to take in the Cours du Chapeau-Rouge, the Grosse Cloche (the medieval bell tower) and the Tour Saint Michel along the way.
