Carpentras Cathedral

Carpentras Cathedral
Southern Gothic architecture.

Attractions

Carpentras cathedral is the largest building in the parish and was built between 1405 and 1531.
Built in the Gothic style, the cathedral is one of the best examples of this architectural language adapted to southern France. The broad space measures over 58 metres long and is dedicated to the city’s patron saint, Bishop Siffrein.

The building was erected on the spot of two religious sanctuaries, one of them dating back to the 13th century. Some remains of this Romanesque building are still visible in north of the cheviot.
